Work

Not everyone can work, but if it’s an option, even a small job can make a big difference. Quids in! can help you get started.

For people who have been out of work for a long time or never had a job, taking that step into employment can feel hard. It’s just as hard for people in work if they haven’t had to look for a job in a while,. But if we’re behind on bills and already claiming all the benefits we’re entitled to, a job (or a better job) might be the only way to improve our situation. Of course, some people can’t work, but if it’s just a lack of confidence holding us back, now might be the time to make a move. Every step forward will motivate us to keep going.

Getting Work Ready

Since 2006, the Quids In! team has helped people who are unemployed find jobs. We’ve worked with many who thought they’d never find work. Now, we’ve created a simple quiz to help people explore their options, including training, internships, and apprenticeships, which are open to all ages.

We’re different from other job support services. Many tell jobseekers to focus on their CVs first, but Quids in! believes the key is thinking about what skills and experiences people already have. Once someone starts to see their strengths, writing a CV becomes easier.

Job Hunting

Job hunting can feel like a job in itself. But once we narrow down what we’re looking for, the process becomes much easier. With the right tools, we can quickly filter jobs that match our skills, location, and schedule. It’s also important to consider factors like commute and qualifications before applying.

We also provide tips for preparing for job interviews and what to say to impress employers. Plus, learn about our rights during the hiring process, including protections against discrimination and what adjustments employers should offer.

Moving Into Employment

Even after landing a role, there are practical things to consider. How will we get there? What will we wear? Who will look after the kids? And how will we cover these costs?

There’s support out there, and this website is here to help people find it. A good place to start is an online ‘better-off calculator’, which can predict our earnings, taxes, and benefits. For low-paid or part-time jobs, Universal Credit and childcare help may still be available.
