Under the new benefit system there is a limit to the total amount of benefits any one household can claim. As of November 2016 that limit is:
- £442.31 a week for families living in London
- £384.62 a week for families living outside London
- £296.35 a week for single people without children living in London
- £257.69 a week for single people without children living outside London
There are some exemptions, for example where a member of the family gets a Personal Independence Payment, Disability Living Allowance, or war widows and widowers. People will also be exempt from the cap for nine months if they have been in work continuously for 12 months prior to their benefit claim.
What should I do now?
