A quick, cheap and easy recipe for breakfast on a warm morning, or a snack on a cold wintry day. Add sausages or vegetables for a more substantial meal.
Serves 1
Ingredients
- 2 slices of butter
- 1 slice of bread
- 1 egg
Method
- In a small saucepan melt one slice of butter over a medium heat. While the butter is warming, place your slice of bread on a chopping board and using a tumbler press the top into the centre of your bread to cut a round hole. Put the cut circle to one side leaving a ‘frame’.
- Now place your frame into your frying pan allowing the melted butter to soak into the bread. Crack your egg into the centre of your frame and leave to fry for 3-4 minutes until it starts to set.
- Using a spatula, lift your frame and egg from the pan and pop in your second slice of butter. Flip your frame over and fry the other side for another 3-4 mins.
- Season with salt and pepper and serve your egg in a frame while its hot. You can serve this on its own or for a bigger meal, add bacon, sausages, beans or anything else you prefer.
