School’s out! Great news for kids, but less so for our wallets. So where can we at for free (or cheaply) this summer?
To keep the cost of the school holidays down there are plenty of deals around allowing us to eat for free (or cheaply) with the kids this summer.
Supermarket chain Morrisons is offering two free toasted crumpets with butter and jam in its cafes over the summer (until 13 August).
It’s open to adults and children, and all we have to do is ask for “Ellen” at the counter. The scheme is named after Ellen Warburton, the founder of the bakery firm that has teamed up with Morrisons for the offer.
Also at Morrisons cafes, we can get a free kid’s meal when we buy an adult’s one that costs £4.49 or more.
Asda is running its popular Kids Eat for £1 scheme in its cafes until the end of 2023. And all adult meals are half-price after 3pm until the end of the summer (4 September).
If we tend to shop at Tesco, their summer cafe offering is a free kid’s meal worth up to £3.25 when we spend just 60p. For example, we’d only have to buy a piece of fresh fruit to qualify.
We’ll need to have a Tesco Clubcard and it’s being offered in more than 300 of the store’s cafes until 26 August. Free meals include breakfasts, hot meal deals and cold pick and mix deals.
At Sainsbury’s cafes kids can get a meal for £1 when we buy an adult meal at £5.20 or more.
The kid’s meal can be either a hot meal or a lunch bag but we have to go in after 11.30am to get the deal.
And at M&S, we can get a free kid’s meal worth £3.95 when we spend £5 or more in any of their cafes.
Big breakfasts
We can get free breakfasts for up to two kids when we buy one for one adult at places like Premier Inn, Travelodge, Beefeater and Brewers Fayre, Hungry Horse and Table Table.
And if we spend £4 in Dunelm’s Pausa cafe we can get a free kid’s meal including a mini main course, two snacks and a drink.
At IKEA they’re offering all customers (not just kids) a breakfast roll and hot drink for 95p in their cafes. The deal is on every day between 9.30 and 11am.
For youngsters, we can get the kid’s pasta in tomato sauce plus a soft drink for 95p. Other children’s meals come in at £1.50 and the deal starts from 11am every day.
And don’t forget these secrets that can help us save cash on our food shopping.
