Worker and shopper talking in a supermarket

Supermarket Aldi recruiting hundreds of apprentices

And the store is also launching a scheme selling surplus food for bargain prices

Supermarket chain Aldi is on the hunt for hundreds of new apprentices this year.

Aldi wants apprentices in areas like store workers, HGV drivers, logistics and buyers.

Apprentices within the store can earn £8.44 per hour – a good bit more than the legal minimum of £6.40.

And apprentices in logistics and driver roles can earn £10.96 per hour. That can rise to £14.13 in the third year of the apprenticeship.

At the same time, apprentices get the chance to gain qualifications that are recognised across the industry.

The supermarket chain said they will also qualify for other perks, like discounts, a bike-to-work scheme and free mortgage advice.

If we think an apprenticeship could work for us, we can apply here.

Magic Bags scheme

It’s not the only good news from the discount supermarket.

Aldi is also launching a Magic Bag scheme.

The bags contain food that’s near its sell-by or use-by dates and cost just £3.30 for at least £10 worth of food.

All 990 UK stores will offer the bags. To get one, we just need to download the free Too Good To Go app and search for Aldi.

From there, we can reserve a bag to collect at a specific time.
