Personal Independence Payment
Disability Living Allowance (DLA) is being replaced by a Personal Independence Payment (PIP). Payments consist of a mobility allowance and a living allowance depending on your circumstances. The size of your award will depend on how well you can cope with a number of daily tasks such as preparing food and drink or making financial decisions. Critics are worried that fewer disabled people will qualify for this new benefit than did for DLA.
When does this happen?
PIP will be phased in between April 2013 and 2016.
What should I do now?
If you’re under 16 or over 65 when PIP is introduced you’ll continue to get DLA. The DWP will write to everybody else who’s receiving DLA and invite them to apply.
